Volunteers!

We are getting close to the Grade 3 End of Year trip to Upper Canada Village!!  Thank you to everyone who is able to volunteer.  We could not do trips like this without your help so thank you again.

If you have signed up to volunteer, you will have received a note in your child's agenda yesterday.  There will be two names of volunteers that will be pulled in our raffle to ride the bus and have their entrance fee paid.  All other volunteers will be required to drive or carpool to Upper Canada Village.  Please let me know when you can, if you will be meeting us at the school and following the buses up or if you will be meeting us at the park.

All volunteers will receive a list of students who will be in their group the morning of our field trip. Some groupings will be small, so feel free to join with other parents and create some larger groupings. Once we enter the park and get organized into our groups, we recommend taking a tour of the Village Gift Shop first thing and if students brought money they can either choose what they plan to buy or make their purchases first thing while the shop is quiet.  The Gift Shop is very busy towards the latter part of the afternoon and students may not have enough time to shop and purchase if it is too close to the time we will be getting on the bus.

Volunteers will receive a Park Map and will accompany their group around the park.  You will be able to tour the park at your own pace and visit each area of the park in the order you choose.  We will give a suggested lunch time, but the timing is ultimately decided by the group. We will also let all groups know the end of day meeting time and place and ask that volunteers ensure their groups are at the bus for departure and attendance.

Other important Information...

We recommend that if students choose to bring money for small purchases, we ask that it is a small amount and that they have a safe place to carry and store their money.

Students are to bring a packed lunch, sun hat, sunscreen, comfortable clothing and footwear.

If you are planning on driving to the park with your child or planning on driving your child home from the park, please let me know so I can record their attendance accurately.

We are looking forward to a wonderful and educational trip on Thursday, June 20th! Should any additional information need to be passed along, I will post all info on our class blog or Twitter feed.  Please write me a note in your child's agenda if you have any other questions or concerns.

Have a wonderful sunny week!!

Mrs. Caluori

Stations of the Cross

Image result for stations of the cross shadowToday we present the Faith in Action, Stations of the Cross tableau in front of the St. Cecilia school community.  Many of the students that are part of this production are in Grade 3.  They have worked so hard over the last few weeks.  The performance will take place today during 3rd block (1:00 P.M.).  If you are not able to join us, please ask your child about the performance and how they felt while they performed and/or watched today.

During Holy Week, students have also been working on writing a 'Through the Eyes of Jesus' Personal Narrative.  Students are writing the Easter Story from the perspective of Jesus.

Heading into the last few days of Lent and celebrating Easter this Sunday, I wish everyone a wonderful long weekend.  I hope everyone is able to slow down and enjoy the company of friends and family.

Sum It Up! Transformational Geometry and Describing Movements on a Grid

We have been working on a new Math Unit called Transformational Geometry!  We have learned the terms translation, rotation and reflection.

We are also learning more about movement on a grid, which links well to our previous coding activities and direction words such as up, down, right, left (e.g., to get from the school to the park, move 3 units left and 2 units down).

Please click on the links below for further information on terms and concepts that you can use at home with your child.
