#GRA16

We have launched our Global Read Aloud project in our Grade 3 class today!  The students are so excited to learn more about the author, Lauren Castillo!  We will be spending the next 6 weeks reading 6 stories she has written and illustrated.

Today we visited her website  LaurenCastillo.com (click this link) to learn more...

The students also enjoyed looking at her beautiful watercolour art throughout the story 'Nana in the City'.  We found a lot of examples of warm and cool colours as well as illustrating techniques, such as 'sound lines' to help the reader feel as though they were in the story hearing the sounds of the city.

We discussed what the word 'Nana' means and students shared a variety of words from their different cultures that mean the same thing as Grandma and Nana.

Lastly, we wrote and illustrated our own reflections about what it means to be brave and if we had our own bravery cape, what fears would we face?

Stay tuned for more amazing Global Read Aloud learning tasks and check out the link above to learn more about this talented author.
