#GRA16

We have launched our Global Read Aloud project in our Grade 3 class today!  The students are so excited to learn more about the author, Lauren Castillo!  We will be spending the next 6 weeks reading 6 stories she has written and illustrated.

Today we visited her website  LaurenCastillo.com (click this link) to learn more...

The students also enjoyed looking at her beautiful watercolour art throughout the story 'Nana in the City'.  We found a lot of examples of warm and cool colours as well as illustrating techniques, such as 'sound lines' to help the reader feel as though they were in the story hearing the sounds of the city.

We discussed what the word 'Nana' means and students shared a variety of words from their different cultures that mean the same thing as Grandma and Nana.

Lastly, we wrote and illustrated our own reflections about what it means to be brave and if we had our own bravery cape, what fears would we face?

Stay tuned for more amazing Global Read Aloud learning tasks and check out the link above to learn more about this talented author.

This week!

I am really looking forward to tomorrow evening and sharing with everyone all of the amazing things that we have been doing and have planned this school year!

Meet the Teacher Night begins at 6:30 pm in the Gym with a greeting from Mrs. Green.  Our 1st presentation will be at 7:00 pm in our portable #3.  The 2nd presentation will be at 7:25 pm in portable #3.  Mme Sultan will be in Rm 158 inside the school for any parents wishing to pop in and say hello.

If you are unable to attend tomorrow evening, I will send home a package with your child on Friday outlining the information covered during the presentation. In addition, I would be happy to discuss any specific questions you may have on the phone.  Please write me a note in your child's agenda and I will contact you shortly.

Also, don't forget to scroll through our Twitter Feed on the Right Hand side of the classroom blog for pictures and daily happenings in Grade 3!.  Sometimes there are more than one post per day so if you don't scroll down you may miss an exciting post:).

Have a wonderful evening,

Image result for fall clip artWeek 2 is going to be a busy and exciting week in Grade 3!

We will be going to Gym for the 1st time today.

Our Gym days are Monday and Wednesday this year.

We will also be starting our Grade 3 Religion Kites this week.  Kites are the Grade 3 Religion symbol and the students will be using the Art techniques they learned on Thursday to illustrate their Gifts/Talents, Faith, Hopes and Dreams and Family.  We will be learning that God calls each of us by name and that he knew us before we were born and is always taking care of us.

Looking forward to another wonderful week.  Homework will be going home today and is due back by this Thursday.  There is a letter explaining our homework routine this year at the front of the Homework Duotang.

Reminder:  Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for Milk and Pizza Online.

Your Partner in Education,

Mrs. Caluori

Upper Canada Village Parent Letter

Upper Canada Village

Just a reminder that our trip is on Thursday.
Busses leave promptly at 8:15.
Please have your child at the front doors of our school at 8:00.  We will then do attendance and place them on the busses.

When we get to the park:

  1. We will all meet on the grassy area to the right of the main building (when looking at the building).
  2. All volunteers will receive a list of students they will be in charge of at the park.  Make sure that all students are supervised at all times.  If they need to go to the washroom they must go with a buddy and an adult should be waiting outside of the building for them.  We have many volunteers, so feel free to join together with any other group or groups so that your child is with their friends.
  3. Your group(s) may have snack and lunch at any time during the day.
  4. You may take your group to the gift shop (some students though may not have money to purchase anything.  As well, we would like to refrain from students purchasing sugar and/or things containing nuts.)
  5. Busses leave promptly at 1:45 - All meet up on front grounds at 1:30 (Making sure students have gone to the washroom etc)
  6. If you drove and wish to take your child back with you, please talk to your child’s teacher and they will mark that they are going home with you.  You may NOT take other children home with you without parental permission.
